I am obsessed with the state of being obsessed. It creates such creepy characters and circumstances. It’s absolutely dripping with drama and desperation. Which is probably why I loved Saltburn so much when it came out. For some unfathomable reason (the universe’s sense of humor I guess) I relate to creepy little guys. I know it’s weird. Idk, sue me.
Here’s five books to read if you are obsessed with obsession.

The Secret History, Donna Tartt
Come on, just read it if you haven’t already. Join us. And if you have, read it again this October. The Secret History is everything I always want out of a novel when I pick it up. Atmospheric, dark, characters that feel and move like they're real, and of course, the prose is truly wonderful. If you can walk away from a book with a yearning for a life that aesthetically fits that novel, it was a worthy read. Maybe Richard's obsession for an aesthetically pleasing life isn't so far off after all.
The Shards, Bret Easton Ellis
The obsession lies with the main characters obsession with other people, and the obsession isn't always love. The call is coming from inside the house in this one. Read it if you enjoy coming of age stories with a bite, mysteries, 80's Los Angeles, or if you feel like no matter where you go you just don't quite fit in.
A Touch of Jen, Beth Morgan
Today, there might not be anything more relatable than being obsessed with someone through social media. But what if you know that person in real life? And if your boyfriend is obsessed with her too? And if you both get invited to a weekend getaway with her?
This one takes a cosmically horrific turn and shows what happens when obsession goes too far.
Perfection, Vincenzo Latronico
A couples obsession with creating the image of a perfect life, at least on paper. They aren't really sure how to live with the perfection. A look at how social media is affecting our lives and how we fit into communities.
Butter, Asako Yuzuki
A woman, Manako Kajii, who is obsessed with men and cooking and in prison for murder. Another woman who is obsessed with Manako Kajii and how she committed the murders. How to take obsession and turn it into something nourishing instead.
